This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental aesthetic, social, and technical principles of Indian Classical dance in multiple contexts. Through these classes, students will explore the foundational form of Kathak. Curated for newcomers and those wishing to refresh their knowledge, this course aims to build an understanding and appreciation of these respected classical dance forms.
Kathak, another pillar of Indian classical dance, blends rhythmic footwork with detailed storytelling. This course will cover the basic rhythmic and percussive vocabulary of Kathak, focusing on posture, coordination, and speed. Through this course, students will learn a beginner's traditional composition and a basic theory of the 16-beat (teen taal) rhythm.
